Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome is a complex endocrine disorder that affects 5 to 10% of women in the reproductive period. It is mainly manifested by the absence or irregularity of the menstrual cycle, excessive hair loss, polycystic ovaries, and insulin resistance. There are several reasons for polycystic ovarian syndrome, including genetics and an unhealthy way of life - lack of exercise, an unhealthy way of eating and smoking. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to present polycystic ovarian syndrome. Methods: We used a descriptive method of work, with a thematic review of professional and scientific literature, which is linked to polycystic ovarian syndrome. When considering both domestic and foreign literature, we will respect copyrights. Professional articles, books and proceedings were published, published between 2009 and 2018. The selected languages are Slovenian and English. Literature is sought through DiKul in CINAHL, Medline (PubMed), and for the COBIB.si library. Discussion and conclusion: polycystic ovarian syndrome could be defined as the imbalance of male and female hormones, which causes the formation of a cyst on the ovary that prevents ovulation and normal menstrual cycle and conception. Among the most common symptoms are: irregular menstrual cycles, overweight, infertility and acnes. One of the key symptoms of polycystic ovary is also disorders in the menstrual cycle. In this case, 30% of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome have normal menstrual periods. In 15% to 30% of adult women with polycystic ovarian syndrome, acne skin also occurs, which is accompanied by menstrual history and hyperandrogenism. A healthy lifestyle that includes healthy diet, aerobic exercises and exercises to strengthen muscle tone and stopping smoking have been shown to improve the health of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome.
