One could say that flexibility, as one of the basic physical abilities, represents the basis of our movement. With proper exercise, in connection with other, the athletes' capacities and results as well as performance of daily activities of the general population are improving, and ultimately, the possibility of injuries, which are most often due to lack of flexibility, is reduced. The means for achieving this are stretching exercises – in the past, they were mostly established in static form, but nowadays those in dynamic form are becoming increasingly popular.
This thesis strives to learn more about the method of Shiatsu stretching, which originates in Japan and is still quite unknown in our country. As this study is based on flexibility, we selected some stretching exercises deriving from the Shiatsu method that we believe are most likely to contribute to the development of this method and may at the same time, be one of the effective, preventive-curative methods of dealing with the consequences of our increasingly specific modern way of life.
The main objective of this thesis is to present the dynamic partner assisted stretching using the Shiatsu method. There is no similar Slovenian literature covering this field, therefore we also wanted to define the concept and program of dynamic stretching according to this method for the first time in our terminology.
After reviewing the literature, we concluded that the written documents covering the field of dynamic stretching might be slightly outdated. In the last few years, the concept of dynamics has expanded and is now linked with new discoveries. Since the theory of fascia lines is coming to the forefront, its aspect is also presented in our research.
We believe the program of partner assisted gymnastic stretching exercises we presented is useful to the athletes as well as general population and can be considered as a tool for adding a greater value to flexibility from practical point of view.
