Introduction: Herniated disc is one of the most common degenerative disorders which causes back pain, radicular pain, paraesthesia and weakness in lower limbs. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to present the physiotherapy treatment of the patient with herniated disc in the lumbar spine. Methods: The diploma work is a case report. Physiotherapeutic assessment of patient's condition included anamnesis, inspection, palpation, linear measurements of the spinal's scope of flexibility, orientation test of muscle strength, measurements of lower limbs girth, assessment of superficial sensory according to appropriate dermatomes, assessment of pain and posture, 10 meter walk test, 6 minute walk test and one leg standing test. Based on obtained data and anamnesis, patient's problems were exposed and short term and long-term goals were set. Measures were made before and after physiotherapy treatment and the results were compared. Physiotherapy program included kinesiotherapy, physical therapy and health education combined with medicament therapy to relieve pain. Results: At the end of physiotherapy treatment range of spinal motion was improved, pain reduced on VAL-IB for 40 mm, times of 10 meter walk test, 6 minute walk test and one leg standing tests with eyes open and closed improved. Discussion and conclusion: With selected physiotherapeutically processes we wanted to achieve the goals we had set. Based on the results, that we managed to gather by the second examination of the patient, we did that really well. We informed the patient, as a part of health-raising education, with information to prevent the possibility of returning back pain and the ways of achieving long term goals.
