The thesis deals with women characters in the novels written by Ernest Hemingway. Taking into account the writer's narrative strategies, we try to expose their character traits which have been completely overlooked for many years. Until the publication of the novel The Garden of Eden in the eighties of the previous century, the reception of Hemingway's heroines had been mostly negative as critics of the author's work discovered that his depiction of women was just one-dimensional. We found out that in his works Hemingway created complex portrayals of women, worthy of the reader's attention.
