In my diploma thesis I compared two tragedies - Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Chrysippos by Ivan Mrak. I analysed the content of both works, established tragedy as a form, and highlighted today's existence of literary form as such. I focused on dramatic structure, dramatic elements, and role of myth in both works. I established the differences between main drama characters and between important side characters. I touched upon fatal prophecy and the theme of love, perception, guilt, sacrifice, and purification within both works. Through comparison I analysed both the ancient and the contemporary historic individual.
