Setting up a power plant for personal consumption is becoming increasingly popular in the Slovenian area, be it in terms of environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, or savings. The power plant is primarily designed as a power supply for energy-using individuals residing in the building. Nevertheless, the financial cost of solar panels and installation is still very high. The master’s thesis discusses the economic justification for a micro solar power plant positioned on a single-family house in the center of Ljubljana.
Three examples are presented in regard to the economic justification for the installation of a solar power plant. The first is based on the operational cost support that enables the redemption of surplus electricity and is thus recognized in this calculation as income.
In the second example the indicators of the economic justification for the solar plant included in the net metering system are calculated. The solar power plant is considered a green source of energy, which provides on-the-spot electricity production. Net measurements are determined on the basis of a two-way energy numerator. In the case of such micro solar power plants, the reporting period covers a full year. One of the greatest advantages is self-supply, especially as the surplus can easily be transmitted into the energy network and can similarly be taken away when the solar power plant is not producing enough energy on its own.
The third example shows cost savings in paying electricity bills. The solar power plant is based on an isolated operation and is equipped with an energy-storing appliance. On the whole, the energy-saving appliance represents a large cost in the installation of a solar power plant, but as technologies, materials and plant performance improves and evolves, these factors can also be observed in lower costs.
In all examples equipment depreciation and upkeep are treated as a cost.
