Nuclear weapons are thus the greatest threat to humanity, civilization, and at the same time it is also the only workable means of deterrence that, through the system of mutual destruction, guarantees world peace. Today certain countries have long reaching ballistic missiles that can transfer nukes to any part of the planet in the shortest possible time. The technology of ballistic missiles is constantly being developed in all areas. In spite of the fact that the number of nukes has been reduced, advancement in ballistic missiles and reentry vehicles allows countries to possess much more effective in deadly nuclear arsenals. Countries are also constantly developing new systems that will be able to break through and to overcome the opponent's counter-defensive defense, which in turn can lead to a another global arms race and a collapse of the strategic balance.
