The biodegradability of packaging materials is becoming a key factor in the packaging industry. We want to reduce as much waste as possible throughout the life cycle of organic packaging. The development and changing of the packaging industry is increasing rapidly. The packaging industry is trying to keep up with the requirements of the market and is trying to satisfy the consumers. The future of packaging brings new and different trends. Trends in materials and designs tend to be multifunctional, the design tends to be different and interesting and the packaging is trying to protect the environment. These trends also occur in the packaging of seedlings and seed material, which we analyzed in our thesis.
The use of paper increases according to the trend that encourages the use of recyclable materials and packaging that can be planted. Trends that we can find in the design of packagings of seedlings and seed material are: less is more, custom typography, use of strong colors, patterns, vintage design, different and innovative packaging. Packaging will receive several new applications, and will try to become completely degradable and more environmentally friendly.
The goal of our thesis was to produce a package for seedling and seed material, which adresses the most important trends that we analyzed in the theoretical part of our thesis. The process itself tries to be simple and ecologically friendly, but with an interesting and innovative end result. We made a packaging that is more functional. The seed material is included in the package itself and can be planted with it together. This eliminates a large part of the waste that occurs after the use. The goal of the packaging is almost complete biodegradability. The packaging is very handy and can be personalized. We kept the design rustic and minimalist.
