The main purpose of this degree paper was to recognize the level of knowledge towards illegal substances among Slovenian athletes and their opinions on doping. We were interested to see whether there were any differences in opinion among athletes based on their gender and if their personality differs based on the type of discipline they practice. First, we introduced doping, its definition and history. Then we looked over the history and presence of doping in Slovenia, with the help of already existing research, and lastly, we talked about personality in general.
In our research paper we used 2 different questionnaires, first one was a personality questionnaire (BFI) and the second one, which we created ourselves, consisted of questions about the depth of knowledge on doping among athletes and their opinions on it. We personally distributed the questionnaires to our subjects or we sent them via email. Questionnaires were given exclusively to professional Slovenian athletes. We edited the collected data in Excel and in SPSS and presented the results with the help of graphs.
We found that on average, Slovenian athletes have a negative point of view towards doping and using illegal substances. Their knowledge about the substances and their effects was good but could be improved. We also found out that the opinions among Slovenian athletes differ based on their gender.
