Abstract

Title:Creating an animated 3D model of a sign language interpreter
Abstract:
This paper presents the making and animation of a 3D model with the purpose of interpreting sign language for the deaf and hard of hearing. The 3D model is made with Blender software, whose operation and and functionalities are presented in the paper. The most important characteristics of the sign language and its interpretation and the accessibility of information and communication technologies for the deaf and hard of hearing are also described in the paper. A basic overview of technologies for increasing the accessibility of content and software for 3D modeling, animation, and the importance of using such systems are given in the paper as well. The goal of the diploma thesis was to make a topologically correct model of a person with the purpose of suitably modifying the polygon mesh during the process of animation. It is shown on the concrete example of making the 3D model that the latter can be extremely useful when it comes to interpreting texts with a limited vocabulary, such as weather forecasts, traffic announcements, or emergency notifications.
