The purpose of the dissertation is firstly, to compare voice assistants on the market. Secondly, to present which services the voice assistants offer in a hotel environment, as well as in vehicles. Lastly, the purpose is to research the use of application programming interface in connection to the integration of devices in the system. In the dissertation, I present the most popular voice assistant at the moment, as well as, the implementation done by using the application programming interface. In the first part of the dissertation, I discuss the evolution of smart systems, from the first automatisations and smart houses to smart assistants to lastly, voice assistants. In the second part of the thesis, I focus on the currently leading voice assistant on the market, Amazon Alexa.
Society has always looked for ways to make our lives easier. Now, however, we can administer smart systems with voice demands. In this part of the dissertation, I thoroughly present the development of voice understanding and the synthesis of speech. Following that, I compare the different systems of voice assistants. In my thesis, I argue that the market is currently ruled by three products. The leading product being Amazon Alexa, which is also the main subject of the second part of dissertation.
Nowadays, application programming interfaces (API) are an important part of connectivity. They enable faster programming and have many other functionalities. I introduce the API and discuss the use of it in voice assistants which heavily rely on the use of it. Thus, with its help, we can demand information, manage devices, as well as, control them. Further, I present the development of Alexa skill. The process starts with setting a name and choosing the trigger, which starts-up the skill. Then the voice demands are connected with the functions, that the skill has to execute. I demonstrate the integration of APIs with an example involving side mirrors in a car.
