The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to present the challenges of mobile app development and examine the field of downloading digital content.
In the theoretical part, contemporary trends of consumption of multimedia content were studied. The functioning of podcasts and automatically downloaded audio and video files was described. We also presented the characteristics of compressing audio and video digital content.
In the practical part of the thesis, an iOS app which enables searching for, subscribing to and playing podcasts was developed. The key characteristics of the programming language Swift were also described, the chosen mobile app architecture and its model were presented and the user interface was designed. Later on, questions regarding usability and user experience were posed, user centred design (UCD) was presented and in the final part of the thesis, the testing of the mobile app was outlined.
