In a rapidly transforming global world, we can witness an increasing number of mass migrations from endangered areas all over the world. The number of people who leave their countries of origins for different reasons in the hope for a better life increases every year. In order for them to create and live a good life in their new country, an effective migration policy is required, a key part of which is the policy of integrating refugees into new societies. This thesis deals with the aforementioned problems, both from the viewpoint of defining the terms of migration and integration, as well as the problems regarding the integration of refugees in the labor market as definite questions regarding migration trends in Slovenia.
In the empirical part, the thesis lists the results and findings of a research study, conducted with the assistance of half-structured interviews with seven refugees from Africa and Asia who arrived in Slovenia after 2015 as well as interviews with assistants, working with the refugees in Slovenia. The purpose of the interviews was to determine how Slovenian language lessons are arranged, which accommodation options they are given after obtaining refugee status, and how likely they are to be integrated into the labor market and obtain permanent employment. The results of the study showed that during integration, refugees mostly struggle with learning Slovenian and seeking employment.
