In this diploma thesis I will present the development and testing of an indoor navigation mobile application.
Development consisted of integration of two different brands of Bluetooth beacons and a content management system (CMS) for managing indoor navigation for mobile applications, made by IndoorAtlas, with a custom mobile application for Android, mapping the indoor location's signals of interest and iterative improvements of the application as testing progressed.
The developed application has achieved up to 1-1.5 meter accuracy and navigation between two points in the same or different levels of the building in optimal conditions.
I have found that there are several different factors affecting the accuracy of indoor positioning. Those were quality of coverage of signals of interest on the location, quality of the mapped signal, signal attenuation, and device characteristics.
The appropriate use cases for this type of system are those, where there is no need for accuracy higher than 3 meters This means that this system is appropriate for large public complexes such as public institutions, major centres and complexes of connected buildings.
