Introduction: Venipuncture is one of the most frequent interventions applied during medical treatment of a patient; consequently, the expertise of this intervention is of crucial importance also for students participating in a clinical sphere. In the educational system, ever new and innovative approaches to the venipuncture teaching/learning emerge. Goal: The goal of the present diploma work is to describe the venipuncture as such, and to spread out the most recent and the most appropriate ways to acquire this skill. Applied methods: The descriptive method, together with the investigation into the relevant literature was applied. By using key words venipuncture, learning, vascular access, venous blood sampling, education in nursing, access to online sources in the data bases PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE and ERIC were established in order to detect the relevant literature. Discussion and conclusion: There are many different approaches to the venipuncture learning, such as: learning by way of virtual simulation, learning supported by infrared visualization of veins, online learning, learning by way of practical exercises at a faculty, learning by help of a plastic hand, and traditional learning. It was a combination of different methods of learning – including those of an earlier date as well as those keeping up with the modern technology - which turned out as the best approach
