Learning analytics is a new and fast-growing field. It originates from different analytic tools, such as business intelligence, web analytics and recommender systems. Ferguson (2012) describes three main factors driving the development of learning analytics. Those factors are big data (“How can we extract value from these big sets of learning-related data?”), online learning (“How can we optimize opportunities for online learning?”) and political concern (“How can we optimize learning and educational results at national or international level?”).
Brown (2011) defines, that learning analytics is based on collecting and analyzing data connected to students. Main goal of learning analytics represents the observation and understanding of learning behavior, with purpose to design appropriate measures.
In the theoretical part of this undergraduate degree I am using a descriptive method with a study of the foreign literature. Main fields, which are described in the overview of the literature are learning analytics, serious games and learning analytics in serious games. In the empirical part, I am presenting a plan for a game, with a learning analytics integrated in it. When we think of learning analytics in the game, we mean different types of game adaptation according to students interests and capabilities. Main goal is to think about the technologies needed to make a game, which will be using learning analytics.
