In the thesis, I study the characteristics and ways of emotional process of interviewed adolescents in a residental treatment institution. In theoretical part I present the basic characteristics of emotions, behaviour associated with them, emotional problems and ways of constructive expression of emotions, and the concepts emotional literacy and emotional literacy education. Then I focus on the period of adolescence and the influence of a family, culture and gender specific socialisation on the emotional development of adolescents. I also define emotional and behavioural disorders in adolescents, I present some classifications of these and describe their origin. In the second part, a brief description of residental treatment institutions follows, with the description of the population that is settled in the mentioned institution, and the emotional literacy education in them. My research problem relates to the study of the characteristics of the emotions of adolescents from Zavod za vzgojo in izobraževanje Logatec. I'm researching what emotions are most common in them, how they are expressed and what situations trigger them. I also explore what emotions adolescents know and recognize in themselves, and whether there are emotions that they do not want or cannot express. Doing that I use a qualitative research approach and a purpose sample which includes 6 adolescents and 4 educators from Zavod za vzgojo in izobraževanje Logatec, who I did semi-structured interviews with. The latter are coded and analysed using a qualitative content analysis. The contribution of the research is identifying the recognition of different emotions in interviewed adolescents, and to learn about the ways and frequency of expressing emotions both from their point of view as well as how their educators view their emotions. In addition, the research could encourage other educational institutions to study the subject. There has never been such a research in Slovenia.
