The never ending question asked in our industry is how to produce more, better, using less time and material, and if all these can be done by changing the technological equipment. Therefore, we tried to find out if the laser technology used in many different areas, could also serve for cutting of fiber boards. To do it the CO2 laser system was used. Using a method of lameling with various laser parameters, 9 testers of different thickness were cut. The analysis of width and surface of laser cuts was performed by a laser triangulation method. The influence of cutting speed, board thickness, additional laser gas, and position of focus distance on width of the cut were observed. The main factors influencing the width of cut were cutting speed and the position of focus distance. Rising the cutting speed and moving the focus distance towards the middle of board thickness, the cutting width diminishes. The roughness, curvature and obliquity of cut surfaces were assessed by an analysis of laser cut surfaces. The cutting speed and thickness of material have the main influence on these parameters. Increasing the cutting speeds and material thickness the roughness and obliqueness of surfaces rise, but the curving radius reduces.
