Abstract

Title:The importance of suitable diet for the animals in experiment
Abstract:
Researchers have been using laboratory animals in science experiments (medicine, biology) and testings (pharmacy) for many years. To follow the 3-R rule which stands for reduction, refinement and replacement of the animals in experiments their genetic profile and environmental factors have to be as controlled as possible because they can have a great effect on research results. Nutrition is one of those factors and it can play a major role in animal’s development, growth, well-being, behaviour and health. Negative effects of nutrition on any of these characteristics can cause lower reliability of experimental results. To make sure that results depend only on factors that researchers want them to depend on and not on nutrition they have to choose a diet that will reassure that and besides be the most appropriate diet for chosen animals.
