School librarianship is part of the library profession, spread between librarianship and pedagogical process at school, which is closely intertwined in cooperation with pedagogical staff and school management. The status of a school librarian between the teaching staff and the school leadership defines the acquired competences: professional competencies, skills, abilities and personal qualities. The purpose of the master`s thesis is to examine the importance of the acquired competences of school librarians for cooperation with the teaching stuff in the management and reflect the status of school librarians in their involvement in the daily functioning of the pedagogical process at school. The first part presents the role of school librarians, ways of connecting and cooperating with pedagogical workers, and foreign research on the topic of the status of school librarians and the presentation of similar Slovenian research, as research on the topic of the status of school librarians has not been available until now. The second part is the results and interpretation of the research. We conducted a survey of 55 teachers from twelve different schools in Slovenia and 6 directors. With a semi structured interview, we included 5 school librarians in research. The results tell us that the status of a school librarian is quite high in the eyes of the teaching staff and the leadership of the school. Schools can achieve even better results with good interaction.
