The master’s thesis analyses the distribution of aquatic and waterside plants in swimming ponds (SP) in Slovenia. Initially, we define the concept of SP which provide standards for SP construction, specifications and ways of SP operation, and legal restrictions of SP positioning in space. The main issue of the thesis is to determine frequently planted water and waterside plants in SP in Slovenia (and abroad) suitable for regeneration areas. Plants crucially contribute to the operation of SPs and are chosen not only according to pedoclimatic conditions and aesthetic value of the regeneration and riparian belts, but also in terms of their function in the SP. The occurrence of taxons (70 types) is discussed and evaluated in 12 SP in Slovenia. Taxons and species composition between Slovenian SP and foreign SP is compared. Moreover, we also evaluated the possibility of implementation of indigenous moisture-loving plants to SP in Slovenia and supplemented the list of suitable plants for regeneration and riparian areas. Based on field work, literature, past trends and comparative analysis of SP design and demand abroad and in Slovenia, we have indicated future development of these elements in Slovenia. In the final part of the thesis, we proposed a planting plan for the regeneration areas of SP, based on the principles of Ellenberg’s ecological indicators and the aesthetic potential of plants. The swimming pond is located in the recreational area envisaged in the existing OPPN of municipality Žalec. In the thesis, the SP concept was transformed, new bathing and regeneration areas, entrances, beaches and accompanying activities were established next to the regional park - Vrbje pond with outskirts.
