In order to automate the deep drilling process, we have to know the durability of a tool that serves the needs of deep drilling. Therefore, in the diploma thesis, an overview is made of how the mechanical properties of the treated material influence the stability of the tool. As the drill bits for deep drilling are drilled in the company on a purpose-made machine, the diploma thesis also analyses how the width of the free surface affects the stability of the tool.
At smaller diameters of the bores, there was a problem that the bores did not cross, therefore the axis deviation analysis was performed in the task and we also examined the main reasons for the excessive axis deviation.
The ImageJ computer program was used for measurements of the wear and axis deviation.
By making a more accurate pilot bore, the axis deviation was reduced from 0.766 mm to 0.420 mm, at a length of 407 mm.
The strength of the tool has shortened by 50 % for materials with better mechanical properties. In increasing the width of the free surface, the tool's stability prolonged from original 262.500 min to 332,283 min.
