The purpose of the graduation thesis was to design a women's clothing collection
with a focus on a historical period and hand embroidery with beads. In addition to this
collection, a unique collection of shoes was created.
The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the history of making and using beads as
a decoration on goods and clothing. In addition, I pay attention to their importance
and value they give to a garment they are on. The thesis also covers the history of
shoes, how shoes shape and materials have changed over time and what their
details signifies. I also introduce some well known and contemporary footwear
designers.
The experimental part describes the process of my own work. I present the initial
inspiration and how this further reflects on the atmosphere, colors of the collection,
silhouettes, materials and, finally, the creation of my collections. I first made a
collection of clothes enriched with beading, which was presented at the Ljubljana
Fashion Week in March 2017. Later, I had designed a shoe collection, from which I
made one pair of shoes from leather. In the end the team – a photographer, a visual
artist, a model and assistants –helped me with the photo-shooting. With this editorial,
my diploma feels finished.
My goal was to create two unique and cohesive collections of women's clothing and
footwear.
