Abstract

Title:
Efficiency of thermo-chemical seasonal heat storage
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the operation of a thermo-chemical seasonal heat storage unit for a selected building. The problem of some renewable sources, such as solar energy, is their incompatibility, therefore seasonal heat storages can be used to reconcile the availability of energy sources and energy use in the building. Seasonal heat storage allow the heat stored during the summer to be used during the winter. We distinguish several types of seasonal storage, such as latent, sensible and chemical storage, among which the thermo-chemical storage used in this thesis. In the program TRNSYS, a simulation of the operation of the underfloor heating system with a built-in thermo-chemical storage tank was carried out for two locations: Ljubljana and Portorož. Also, using a simulation in TRNSYS and Excel calculation, a comparison between a thermo-chemical and a sensible heat storage was performed. In this comparison, we focus on the parameters of the surface of the collectors, the volume of the storage tank and the coverage of the energy demand for the selected building. With this comparison, we would like to show the advantage of the thermo-chemical storage, to provide greater coverage of the energy demand for the operation of the building, compared to the sensible seasonal heat storage.
