Library automation is a process performed in most countries in the nineties. This was not the case in Kosovo, because for most libraries it did not yet even begin. The purpose of this thesis is to present the current situation of libraries in Kosovo and their openness to start the atomization process and to show the obstacles that caused the 20-year delay. I was interested in the attitude of librarians towards the delay and the popularity of the regional COBISS system. I gathered data with a survey and interviews. 197 librarians from university, municipality and special libraries as well as the national library took part. The results show that multiple factors influenced the delay of library automation in Kosovo: lack of financial means, insufficient support from higher institutions, inadequate training of librarians and lack of staff in the IT field. I conclude that the librarians in Kosovo have a positive attitude towards the automation and realize that this process should be concluded. Most also understand the advantages of the COBISS system and believe it would be a long-term solution for a unified automation of library activities in the country. If, based on these opinions, higher institutions prepare a strategy for implementing an integrated library system, the purpose of this thesis will be achieved.
