Abstract

Title:Family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adult patient : literature review
Abstract:
Introduction: The concept of family presence is used in patients of all ages and in all environments of health care, including emergency care and in-hospital resuscitation. Many professional organizations and the latest resuscitation guidelines recommend that relatives should be invited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to present the presence of relatives during cardiopulmonary resuscitation of an adult patient at the theoretical level. Methods: We used descriptive method with systematic review of scientific literature in English and Slovenian language with the following limitations: full-text articles, scientific and reviewed journals, time period between 2010 and 2017. Discussion and conclusion: Relatives want to be present at cardiopulmonary reanimation all over the world, while facing many obstacles, among which the greatest opposition is of health professionals. Abroad experiences and attitudes about the presence of a patient's relatives during cardiopulmonary resuscitation are different among relatives, patients and health professionals. The most opposed are doctors, fewer nurses, and least of all relatives and patients. In Slovenia, only medical rescuers have been explored the presence of relatives in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and found it largely disagreeable. In Slovenian hospitals the presence of relatives in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is rare. Nurses in care for their relatives rely on formally acquired knowledge, feelings and experiences,. Hospital management should consider about appropriate work instructions and also about adequacy of the premises for the cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The theme is suitable for adding to theoretical contents of education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and can be the basis for research in nursing in the future.
