Abstract

Abstract:
Inequality of female and male gender in the language, especially Slovenian is a very wide topic. It should be paid more attention to, from various points of view. It is very important what our language is like, because we identify with it. We are in the process of rapid development, as well as our language. The idea of equality firstly emerged with feminist movement at the end of 19th Century. It remained one of the most important tendencies of the Western society. In the areas dominated only by men in the past, we can find women standing at the side. A lot of new feminine nouns emerged according to new activities, women deal with. This can be seen in the first and second edition of the Dictionary of Standard Slovenian. Terminology of the already existing feminine nouns, have some new definitions in the new edition of the Dictionary of Standard Slovenian. More precisely, they have extended examples of use. It also contains many new definitions. Despite these changes, equality between sexes is far from being achieved. A shift in the social consciousness should occur in this case.
