The master's thesis shows that it is possible to determine the typical linguistic elements of all columnist writers in Slovenia although each columnist has an original writing style. We present theoretical aspects of column genre and linguistic style. The linguistic elements which exist in all of seven writers' columns are presented and analysed. These elements are writing about (current) social subjects including the revealing of background, opinions and conclusions which are frequent at the beginning and at the end of columns, rational and emotional components on several linguistic levels and in argumentation. In columns, formal language is prevalent with elements, such as, expressive lexemes and figures of speech that are not stylistically neutral, similarly constructed sentences, first and second forms of personal pronouns and verbs, metatextual elements, some journalistic terms, parentheses and intertextuality. These listed characteristics are recognized as cornerstones of the linguistic style in Slovenian columns.
