The theoretical part of the master's thesis defines the basic concepts in the field of syntax, verbal types and sentences, and the relation between word types and sentences is presented in various aspects. The communicative ability is defined as one of the basic objectives of contemporary language lessons, and in this context, in particular, the linguistic and meta-linguistic syntactic ability that enables the individual to understand and form meaningfully, contextually relevant and linguistically correct phrases, sentences and sentences in SKJ and (auto)reflection on them. From the point of view of the connection between the treatment of verbal types and sentences, the curriculum 1998 and the curriculum 2011 are compared; In the places where most changes are detected, is added a proposal for the curriculum of 2015. Then, using the observation form, the analysis of three independent workbooks which are used in the classroom of the Slovenian language in 7th class in the primery school. After interpreting the results, follows a short application part, in which there are some suggestions of tasks that teachers could use to tackle the treatment of sentences more closely with the roles of different word types, thus systemize the knowledge of students.
