Abstract

Abstract:
The Isonzo front whose battles were fought on Slovene ground between 1915 and 1917, has left us the significant amount of war material that has only been the interest of collectors for a long time. It has also brought the numerous trenches, dugouts and other structures being not a subject of any archaeological investigation in Slovenia up to now. I hope that this diploma paper is going to lead us one step closer towards the development of the First World War Archaeology in our country. At the beginning of this paper, there is a short representation and research history of the battlefield archaeology in Europe. Further on, the historical overview is explained by the events that took place on the Rombon mountain and its surroundings during the First World War. The central part contains the results of field research on the Rombon battlefield. Finally, we take a look at the material culture found on the battlefield.
