Abstract

Abstract:
Different factors influenced the development of personal libraries: text-medium, accessibility of texts, public interest in texts, science and literature in general, population literacy and presence of other media. A systematic overview of the magazine Naš dom: revija za praktičnost, lepoto in kulturo stanovanja by monitoring the integration of book shelves in home furnishing over the past six decades, and results of a survey on domestic libraries among buyers of Slovenian books via the online bookstore Emka have shown that domestic libraries with printed books are still topical in modern times, however more and more limited to a particular group in the population. The results of the thesis provide an insight into the changing role of books in everyday life; they highlight some important differences between printed and electronic books and allow foresight into how the domestic library will change in the future and what is the significance of ebook phenomenon to it.
