Abstract
Title:Comparison of aerobic capasity of mothers and their daughters
Abstract:
Physical activity and aerobic exercise not only contribute to weight loss, but they also improve the quality of life. Individuals who perform the appropriate amount of aerobic exercise have higher aerobic capacity than individuals whose lifestyle is predominantly sedentary. The purpose of the graduation thesis was to evaluate the differences in aerobic capacity between daughters and their mothers, measured at the same age. The results of a 600 m run, obtained at the same age for daughters and mothers was takes as a measure of aerobic capacity. The results demonstrate that the daughters required significantly (p=0,000) more time to complete running the same distance (195.1 (38.8) s) than their mothers (165.7 (23.7) s), which in turn means that their aerobic capacity was lower than of their mothers’ at the same age. The daughters also had a significantly higher body height (daughters: 149.4 (14,0) cm; mothers: 147.2 (SD=14,0) cm; p=0,006), higher body mass (daughters: 45.2 (13.5) kg; mothers: 40.4 (11.6) kg; p=0,000) and higher body mass index (daughter: 19.77 (3.6) kg/m²; mothers: 18.2 (2.6) kg/m²; p=0,000) as their mothers at the same age. The results of the study demonstrated that the aerobic capacity of daughters (i.e. today's primary school pupils) is on average 18 % lower than that of their mothers, which, despite the observed improvements in aerobic capacity of elementary school students reported in recent years, calls for further intervention programs to improve the physical capacity of adolescents.
