Abstract
Motiv Božje naklonjenosti in preskrbe (ponovno) osvetli vidik osebne vere in tudi več tisočletij kasneje igra izjemno vlogo v življenju vsakega kristjana.

Title:The motif of loving-kindness and role of redeemer in the Book of Ruth
Abstract:
When it comes to the commandments and prohibition, the law of Israel is very clear – especially in the matter of Moabites in Israel: they are not permitted to join the God’s people. For this same reason it is intriguing Ruth not only found the way in Israel, she is even included in the Messianic line. The book of Ruth is not only a story, it is an extraordinary example of overcoming the law (Galatians 2:19-20). To fulfil God’s purpose for her life, she needed a kinsman. God showed his lovingkindness to Ruth and Naomi as he gave them a redeemer. This present work relied in the Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon for Hebrew terminological study, as key words were examined and compared with other translations. Furthermore, this thesis synthesises a study of commentaries and articels on the Book of Ruth together with the literature that examines the words ḥesed̠ חֶסֶד lovingkindness and go´ël גֺּאֵל kinsman. This study used narrative methodology for reading the text as it is considered the most relavant for reading this Old Testament passage as a story. The main conclusion is that Ruth’s lovingkindness towards Naomi surpassed all the human expectations, despite her nationality she found grace – with God and with people. Moreover, we find that Ruth is representative of all nations that God redeemed through his Son Jesus Christ (John 3:16). If Obed was Naomi’s redeemer, Jesus is the Redeemer of the nations (Isaiah 2:3). The motif of God’s lovingkindness and His provision brings to light (again) the aspect of faith and even thousands of years later represents substantial part in the life of every Christian. It is a reminder that we were foreigners and are now the children of God (Ephesians 2:12-13). He also gives hope to those who do not know God yet, as we can all find our Redeemer in Jesus Christ.
