Abstract
Vsak športnik se v svoji karieri sreča z določenimi izzivi in ovirami, s katerimi se mora soočiti in jih premagati.

Every athlete who is involved in the process of training and education at the same time is confronted with so called dual career. To be successfull in both of these fields, one must achieve a perfect balance between training, studying and social life. Every athlete in his career comes across different challenges and obstacles. Individual athlete’s competency and experience from different life areas play a cruical part overcoming those challenges and achieving the final goal. The goal of this thesis was to find out which set of abilities athletes have and which of them they find the most important to manage their dual career successfully. 90 athletes from various sports disciplines, aging from 15 to 19 years old, were part of this research. Based on the solved qestionnaries, we analyzed the results with Microsoft Office Excel and SPSS data processing programs. The analysis showed, that skills for managing the dual career and skills for self-regulation are important to the athletes. It also showed that athletes find socials skill the least important. As the most important skill they emphasized the perseverance at challenging momemnts and periods when you are not progressing, and the commitment to success in both sport and education. Average athlete owns skills for self-regulation and skills for regulating his or her dual career. The most owned ability amongst athletes is the ability to stay in touch with their families and friends, as well as preserver social connections with their fellow peers.
