A system of granting for modern wood fuel boilers to increase the use of renewable energy sources has been established in Slovenia for over 10 years. In this research we studied the recipients of grants, the use of wood fuels from the consumer's perspective and the operation of new wood fuel boilers. We also analyzed the system of granting for modern wood fuel boilers from the Eco Fund (SWOT analysis). Among the recipients of grants between 2009 and 2015, 80 respondents were selected from the Eco Fund database with random sampling and then a telephone survey was carried out with them. The average age of the respondents was relatively high, the educational structure was good and the sexual structure was quite balanced. 66.3 % respondents think that when purchasing wood fuels for heating with modern wood fuel boilers, quality is the most important, at second place is the price, while on the third position is the possibility of home delivery. A majority of the respondents pointed out that they decided to invest in a new modern wood fuel boilers because of the necessity of adaptation of heating system, the second most important reason for the investment was a low price of wood fuel compared to the others. The respondents were mostly satisfied with the amount of obtained grants, and a process of obtaining grants was mostly assessed as a simple or very simple process. Through the SWOT analysis, we proposed defensive approach to guidelines for the future preparation of tenders on Eco Fund, where it is necessary for Eco Fund to take strengths to avoid weaknesses and dangers.
