Abstract
Kmetijstvo zagotavlja večino hrane za naraščajočo človeško populacijo. Zaradi vse večjih potreb po njej se velikokrat večajo tudi negativni vplivi kmetjstva na okolje. Da bi jih omilili, razvijamo ekološko bolj sprejemljive kmetijske tehnologije. Med takšne spada tudi uporaba biostimulantov. Biostimulanti so spojine, pripravki, ki - ne da bi imeli gnojilni učinek - vzpodbujajo fiziološke procese ter stimulirajo rast in razvoj rastlin. Izboljšajo sprejem in učinkovitost izrabe mineralnih hranil, pozitivno vplivajo na presnovo, izboljšajo odziv rastlin na okoljske dejavniki pri čemer zmanjšujejo abiotski in biotski stres (npr. izboljšajo odziv na patogene). Ti učinki se pri kmetijskih rastlinah odražajo na boljši rasti in v večjem pridelku. Aktivnost biostimulantov je odvisna od njihove sestave, količine, načina aplikacije, vrste rastline, razvojnega stadija rastline in od okoljskih razmer. Predstavniki biostimulantov so beljakovinski hidrolizati, izvlečki morskih alg, hitozan in naravni polimeri, anorganske spojine, koristne glive, koristne bakterije in humusne spojine. Da bi biostimulante uspešno uporabili v trajnostnem kmetijstvu, je potrebno natančneje raziskati mehanizme njihovega delovanja, interakcije z drugimi substancami in okoljskimi dejavniki. Za različne rastlinske vrste je potrebno ovrednotiti učinke in optimirati načine aplikacije.

Title:Use of biostimulants to enhance plant growth and development
Abstract:
Agriculture provides majority of food for the growing population. Higher demands for food cause greater negative impacts to the environment. With ongoing development of new more ecological acceptable agricultural technology we can alleviate these negative impacts. Use of biostiumulants have been proposed as a new solution. Biostimulants are substances - differentially than fertilizers - that promote physiological processes and stimulate plant growth and development. They can enhance nutrient uptake and efficiency, regulate plant metabolism, increase responses to environmental factors by ameliorating abiotic and biotic stress (e.g. imporvement of responses to pathogens). These effects result in better growth quality and greater yield in crops. Activity of biostimulants depends on the composition, quantity, method of application, crop species, developmental stage of plant and environmental conditions. Plant biostimulants are protein hydrolysates, seaweed extracts, chitosan and biopolymers, inorganic substances, beneficial fungi, beneficial bacteria and humic substances. Implementing biostimulants to sustainable crop management demand further understaning of mechanisms of their functioning, interactions with other substances and environmental conditions. Evaluation of their effects and optimization of modes of application is required for each plant species.
