The human race is poluting and warming up our planet with the use of fossil fuels and breeding of livestock. It is important that we find a secondary shelter, to wich we can escape in case the conditions on Earth get a lot worse. The most suitable planet in our Solar system is Mars. In theory, there are many different ways to make conditions on Mars more Earth-like. In this paper, we will take a look at the terraformation of Mars using genetically modified plants and mycorrhizal fungi. We have gathered information from research which has been used to make plants less susceptible to different stressful conditions, such as different gaseous composition of the Martian atmosphere, low temperatures and the absence of water. Mars also has a different soil composition than Earth, therefore research has also been conducted on mycorrhizal fungi to help the plants grow. All of the mentioned conditions have a high impact on the plant growth, that is why it is essential for the plant to be well adapted. The goal of the terraformation is not only the survival of a plant, but also it's flourishment and gradual transformation of Mars into a habitable planet.
