Abstract

Title:Development of a Device for Measuring Hydrostatic Forces on Submerged Surfaces
Abstract:
Final thesis takes on a problem of measuring hydrostatic forces and the centre of pressure on a submerged at surface. The problem we were facing was to facilitate measurements without the need for providing a sealing force, which would have an impact on results. We have decided to construct and produce an acrylic vessel with a circular "floating2 surface on which the force is measured in three points, by means of which any rotation is prevented and it does not carry any sealing forces. The surface is mounted on the vessel by a thin silicone membrane to reduce any losses due to internal friction. Upon testing the device we have come to a conclusion that the forces deviate from theoretical values for around 2.86-6.58%, and the centre of pressure around 0.43-8.12%.
