Abstract

Title:Comparison of dynamic responses of elastomeric rail pads on impact loading
Abstract:
This work deals with the vibrations in the railway traffic, specifically the vibrations of rails and sleepers that are also affected by the rail pads installed between them. We made measurements of dynamic responses of three elastomeric rail pads on impact loading. Each of the rail pads with a different stiffness was exposed to two static pressure conditions, which simulated the axial pressure of trains. Ultimately, an analysis of the measurements was conducted. We found the rail pads’ stiffness and the static pressure intensity to have a severe effect on the pads’ dynamic responses. Furthermore, by appropriate selection of rail pads, we can reduced the vibrations that were affecting the rails and sleepers. At the highest axial load, the impact on the sleepers was reduced by a factor of three, and the impact on the rails by a factor of two.
