Abstract

Title:Fabrication of useful products with biocomposite filaments
Abstract:
The diploma thesis describes the process of 3D modeling and printing of useful products with material extrusion technology. The theoretical part describes 3D printing in general, and material based 3D print technologies. Various materials used in 3D printing are also presented, the most important material being a biocomposite filament containing wood. The thesis also contains a brief overview of web sites through history, as well as best known web libraries of 3D models. The experimental part presents all hardware, software and materials used at work. It also describes the entire modeling process of the two products that were printed in the end. Based on these two models additional ones with new, personalized features, have been designed. The workflow from model to print, the process of printing, the settings that were used, and the printed models are also presented. The printing costs are compared to the costs of handcrafting such models out of wood. In the end, a web survey was conducted. The survey focused on whether people would be willing to spend a bit more on certain products, knowing these products are useful, unique, based on biocomposite materials, and tailored to the user.
