Improper and irregular eating habits, a lack of physical activity and a predominantly sitting lifestyle are but a few of the factors that lead to the continuing increase of obesity in the population. Based on the research about the incidence of obesity in Slovenia and abroad, it can be concluded that the situation raises concern. Inspite of constant educational campaigns as to the importance of proper nutrition and regular exercise, the number of people with obesity is steadily increasing. There are numerous options of exercise and diets but only the appropriate combination of both can guarantee to provide the desired result. The aim of this study is to establish whether or not the ketogenic diet is an appropriate mechanism for weight reduction of persons with obesity and which form of physical activity is the most efficient in achieving the intended result of reducing body mass. The BioMed Central and PubMed online repositories were examined by using the predefined criteria of relevant literature. This work is based only on publications that meet the criteria. Upon examination of existing literature on the subject, it may be concluded that the ketogenic diet is indeed appropriate for the purpose of weight loss as are also some forms of physical activity, such as resistance training and a combination of resistance training and aerobic exercise.
