Abstract
Diplomsko delo obravnava tematiko žalovanja in soočanja mladostnika ob smrti starša. V teoretičnem delu diplomskega dela so predstavljeni pojav smrti, mladostniško obdobje in njegove značilnosti, travmatski dogodek in njegov vpliv na mladostnika.

Title:Grieving adolescent: the death of a parent
Abstract:
This bachelor thesis discusses the topic of grieving and the way adolescents deal with the death of a parent. I wanted to determine the process of grieving in adolescents and how they can be helped in overcoming such a great and significant loss. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the phenomenon of death, the age of adolescence and its characteristics, the traumatic event and its influence on the adolescent. Grieving is presented in the following chapter. Grieving is a unique process and is different in every adolescent. The central part of the thesis is dedicated to the grieving process and the phases those who are grieving pass through, as well as the reactions of the adolescent to a parent’s death. The empirical part focuses on exploring the grieving process of two girls that have experienced the death of a parent in their youth, as well as who has helped them through the grieving process and in what way. I especially wanted to know whether there are differences in grieving between an adolescent whose parent’s death was expected and an adolescent whose parent’s death was sudden. The results have shown that every adolescent grieves in their own way, they have also shown the importance of self-help in the grieving process at this stage and the importance of peers and friends who offer support. The main conclusion to be drawn from this thesis is that dealing with the death of a parent in adolescence is difficult and painful, because adolescence is a period where the adolescent is separating from the parents, but at the same time needs them to find themself and their true identity. I have also come to the conclusion that it would be good for people to talk more about death and consequently about grief. I find the topic important for social pedagogy, since social pedagogues are those people who could contribute much to the detabuisation of the phenomenon of death.
