Abstract
V tej zaključni nalogi so predstavljena različna področja uporabe simulacij diskretnih dogodkov (SDD), študijski primeri uporabe SDD na dejanskih primerih iz industrije in smernice razvoja uporabe SDD. SDD je bila prvotno razvita z namenom omogočiti izboljšanje slabe produktivnosti proizvodnje, danes pa je prerasla v nepogrešljivo orodje za reševanje problemov v različnih industrijskih panogah. Uporaba SDD je v zadnjih dvajsetih letih prerasla okvirje industrije, saj se je izkazala za uporabno tudi na drugih področjih. Na razširjenost SDD kažejo številni znanstveni članki in strokovna dela, v katerih so predstavljeni različni študijski primeri uporabe SDD. Izkazalo se je, da je mogoče s SDD reševati tako ekološke težave kot tudi izzive v storitvenem sektorju. Na razvoj SDD ima čedalje večji vpliv tudi virtualna resničnost (VR), saj podjetja in raziskovalci vidijo velik potencial v povezovanju VR in SDD. Navkljub skoraj 60-letnemu obstoju SDD pa se razvoj še zdaleč ni ustavil, strokovna javnost pa opozarja na stalne zahteve po novih načinih uporabe SDD in razvoju novih računalniških orodij.

Title:Simulation of manufacturing systems – examples of models from industry
Abstract:
This final thesis presents different fields in which discrete event simulation (DES) is used, a number of study cases solving real-life problems in industry, and future trends in the application of DES. In the early stages, DES was developed to address problems regarding low factory productivity, however, nowadays it has become an indispensable tool for solving issues in different industries. The application of DES has overgrown the frames of industry and has extended into many different areas. DES was shown to be effective for solving problems related to ecology and even in the service sector. The impact of virtual reality (VR) on the development of DES has grown in the recent years mostly because companies and researchers have recognized a huge potential in the combined applications of VR and DES. Although DES has existed for nearly 60 years, the development of DES is far from finished as there is a constant demand for new software and frameworks for the application of DES.
