Slovenian dialect words are covered in various books and publications that have been published over the years. Many books that cover this kind of topic, can be found in the digital form on the Fran site, where we can find the desired dialect word and get the results from the Slovenian linguistic atlas in the form of a map showing the variants of the use of the word across Slovenia, materials on the map and comments in PDF format. The problem is that this kind of operation is time consuming and does not allow the use of interesting data in a user-friendly way. There are not better solutions for viewing Slovene dialects in the form that dynamically visualizes data.
In this diploma thesis we have created a web application that solves the problem of dynamic visualization of dialectical data. The data was provided by the Department of Slovene Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the university of Ljubljana. Based on this data, the application provides a transparent and easy dynamic display of dialectal words on the map of Slovene dialectal areas, which shows the spatial distribution of dialect phenomena in Slovenia. The map view is dynamically created and modified based on two selected parameters: topics and words. The map shows the appropriate symbols of lexemes, which differ from place to place. Choosing an individual lexeme on the map opens a phonetic record that contains details in the form of a sound clip and written content.
In order to create an application, we used MySQL database and the PHP language (CodeIgniter framework) for data management and logical use. On the display page, we used HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap for JavaScript and CSS and JavaScript with libraries jQuery and D3, which is intended for visualizing data on map of dialects.
