At the beginning of my diploma paper I present a Russian literary theoretician and philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin. Furthermore I deal with his theory of carnival, which I describe based on his work Ustvarjanje Francoisa Rabelaisa in ljudska kultura srednjega veka in renesanse (Bakhtin, 2008), which also serves as the basis for literary analysis of the chosen fairy tales by Svetlana Makarovič, Človek, ne jezi se, Kokokoška Emilija and Škrat Kuzma dobi nagrado, from the Svetlanine pravljice collection (2008). What follows is a presentation of the author’s fairy tales and the notion of the short modern fairy tale by M. Kobe (2000).
The first aim of the diploma paper if to find out, whether there are elements of carnival in the chosen fairy tales and literary analyse them.
The second aim of this paper is to present the notion of carnival and grotesque to children with the help of fairy tales and illustrations, with the intention for them to re-form the chosen short fairy tale Hrčkova hruška by Svetlana Makarovič and illustrate it.
