Abstract

Title:Fire safety analysis of mercantile building
Abstract:
Fire safety is one of six essential requirements of Construction Act. One can meet these requirements in two different ways. In first way fire safety study can be done by satisfying Slovenian technical guideline TSG-1-001:2004: Požarna varnost v stavbah. The other way is to meet requirements of foreign technical guidelines. In the first part of the thesis a fire safety study is prepared for a recently designed shopping mall according to American NFPA standards, which are occasionally used in Slovenia. An assessment of the fire risk by the SIA method is also made. Originally, the fire study of the shopping mall was made by the design company according to Slovenian technical guideline. Comparison analysis between Slovenian and American requirements is made at the end of first part. In the second part of the thesis application of the performance based design approach is presented. Focus is set on two aspects – one is evacuation of users and the other is smoke development during different fire scenarios. Analysis of evacuation is made with use of software Pathinder. With the use of software Pyrosim simulation of smoke propagation is made. The assessment of safe evacuation possibilities in sufficient time in conditions of low visibility due to smoke propagation is made based on the simulation results in Pathfinder and Pyrosim software
