The thesis describes planning, scheduling and manufacturing execution in Industry 4.0 systems, along with problems that occur in these processes. It identifies the gap between planning and execution, and explains the factors that cause the gap. Furthermore, it introduces the digital tools and technologies, which are used in modern Industry 4.0 systems. These digital solutions can help to improve planning and scheduling accuracy and speed. The conducted survey shows that planning and scheduling is still performed mostly manually or semi-automated in manufacturing companies. Moreover, it reveals that manufacturers are aware of new digital tools and technologies, and that they believe that digital solutions can help them to improve their business and production processes success.
