Abstract
Pri iskanju literature si pomagamo z naslednjimi bazami podatkov: COBISS, CINAHL, Medline, DiKUL, ScienceDirect, PubMed, WileyOnlineLibrary, Google Učenjak, Google Books in Cochrane.

Title:
Breastfeeding after breast cancer : literature review
Abstract:
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer of women in the developed world. In Slovenia, approximately 1100 women are diagnosed every year. The disease also affects young women. Some get pregnant after treatment completion and this opens up the dilemma whether they can breastfeed their infant in awareness of all the benefits of breastfeeding for them as well as for their infants. Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to present what breast cancer is, introduce possibilities of breastfeeding after breast cancer treatment, and show the role of healthcare professionals/midwives in providing advice and assistance with breastfeeding to women after breast cancer treatment. Methods: A descriptive research method with a review of professional and scientific literature was used. Literature searches were carried out in the following databeses: COBISS, CINAHL, Medline, DiKUL, ScienceDirect, PubMed, WileyOnlineLibrary, Google Scholar, Google Books and Cochrane. Results: All reviewed research papers confirm that breastfeeding after breast cancer treatment is possible and completely safe for the mother as well as the infant. A case study showed that even mothers after mastectomy who give birth to twins have the possibility to breastfeed. Discussion and conclusion: Breastfeeding after breast cancer treatment is possible and completely safe for the mother and the infant. Women can breastfeed their infants either on the healthy breast or on both breasts. Breastfeeding on the operated breast may cause problems such as a sore nipple and reduced milk production on that breast. Also mothers of twins after mastectomy have the possibility to breastfeed both infants on one breast. They should establish their own regime of breastfeeding and contact an IBCLC lactation consultant for assistance and advice. Healthcare professionals also play an important role during the process. Their task is to give advice, support and expert information that women need.
