Abstract

Title:The role of nurse in the comprehensive treatment of patient with carpal tunnel syndrome : literature review
Abstract:
Introduction: The carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common form of peripheral neuropathy and affects approximately 3 % of adults. Typical symptoms are: a pain, numbness, tingling in a palm and fingers, which is served by the medial nerve. The problems get worse after burdening, at night when a patient wakes up with hand numbness. For the reason of not visiting a specialist earlier, a lot of patients need operational treatment. The aim: The aim of this diploma work is to introduce the characteristics of the carpal tunnel syndrome, the role of a nurse, patient teaching and rehabilitation connected to the carpal tunnel syndrome. The working methods: A descriptive working method by domestic and foreign literature review within the treated topic was used. The review of the field of carpal tunnel anatomy is made, medical care and the role of the nurse by the patient with the carpal tunnel syndrome. A formular of the clinical way of Surgical sanatory of Rožna dolina was represented. The discussion and conclusion: The results demonstrated as from years 2012 until 2015 show the average year of patients waiting for the carpal tunnel syndrome operation procedure was 64. The symptoms of the carpal tunnel are more often appeared with women as with men, since women are more exposed because of fine and manual holds. By increased number of the patients daily there is not enough time for the individual treatment. The role of the nurse during total patient treatment in the Surgical sanatory contributes to better patient preparing to the operation procedure. The patients receive oral and written instructions for the self-supply after the operation procedure. The clinical way of the Surgical sanatory of Rožna dolina for the carpal tunnel syndrome is used. I consider the collaboration between a nurse and a patient is well.
