Introduction: Infant colic or excessive crying are the most frequent cause of doctor visits in the first few months of an infant’s life. The pathology is not well understood and there is no uniform definition and treatment approach. Therefore, in this period, the interaction between infant and parents is at risk. Parents are distressed and may become exhausted. During this period the role of healthcare providers is to properly inform the parents about infant colic presentation, management and provide them with the needed support. Purpose: The aim of this dissertation is to assess parental experience with infantile colic in Slovenia. Methods: The research method used was a descriptive quantitative study. In this study were included mothers of children with infantile colic aged up to one year. Data was collected with an online survey, between 22nd December 2016 and 22nd January 2017. The data was then analysed by using the website EnKlikAnketa and computer programme Microsoft Office Excel. Results: The study included 252 mothers between the ages of 19 to 39. Half of mothers listed internet as a source of information about infantile colic, almost a third received the information from their paediatrician. Two thirds of mothers had the support of a partner and no mother received any support from healthcare providers. The most efficient method for relieving colic according to the mothers is holding their infant in their arms while walking. Most mothers didn’t try any medical treatment for infantile colic. Discussion and conclusion: More research on parental experience with infant colic and their management is needed in order for healthcare providers to more efficiently easily approach infants with colic. The results of the study show the greater need of informing the parents on infantile colic and a greater involvement of healthcare providers in coping with colic
